Diversity and Inclusion Policy

DubaiRead is read by people from many nationalities, languages and backgrounds who share the same buses, roads and mobile networks. This policy explains how we write and build the site so that it is useful and respectful for all of them.

Who we write for

  • Daily commuters, including shift workers who rely on the first and last buses.
  • Residents who travel between emirates for work or family.
  • Students, families and older residents.
  • New arrivals and visitors finding their way for the first time.
  • People without a car, a credit card or a postpaid mobile plan.

Plain and respectful language

  • We write in plain English with short sentences, because many readers use English as a second or third language.
  • We explain local terms such as nol, Hafilat, Salik and USSD codes the first time they appear.
  • We avoid slang, idioms and jokes that do not translate well.
  • We use neutral, respectful language about nationality, religion, gender, age and disability, and we do not use stereotypes.

Information that works for everyone

  • We list free official channels before paid options, and cash or machine top-ups next to card and app payments where they exist.
  • We cover prepaid as well as postpaid mobile plans, and low-cost packages as well as premium ones.
  • Where operators publish concessions or exemptions, for example fares for students, senior citizens and People of Determination, or Salik exemptions, we explain who qualifies and how to apply.
  • Where operators publish accessibility information, such as step-free access or priority seating, we include it.

An accessible website

  • Clear headings, readable font sizes and good colour contrast.
  • Timetables in real tables with column headings, so screen readers can follow them.
  • Descriptive text on images and links.
  • Pages that work on small phones, on slow connections and with a keyboard.

If any part of the site is hard to use with your device or assistive technology, please tell us and we will fix it.

Respect for the UAE

We write with respect for the laws, culture and traditions of the United Arab Emirates and of the many communities who live here.

What we do not publish

We do not publish content, comments or advertising that discriminates against, demeans or targets any person or group, promotes hatred, or treats people differently because of where they come from or what they believe. Reader comments are moderated to the same standard.
